One of my favorite thing to do: drawing imaginary plants. Occasionally I study an actual twig brought back from a nature walk, but mostly I prefer making my own version of things.
In those days of imaginary plants, I was really enjoying playing with the inside of one main shape. Below is one of my more elaborate drawings from that time:
One of the very early drawings from my Funky Plants period. I did tons of elaborate pen and ink drawings along these lines. And a few paintings too. Here is one I like:
At Omi recently, enjoyed many pieces. Among them 2 groupings of 3 trees. One of them 3 black burned trunks. The other 3 trees made of layers of flat strips, one white, one blue and one red. I like groupings of 3.
This was a pretext to play with watercolor. This is one of the reasons I really enjoy this drawing-a-day: sometimes I just try things with no concern about the result.
Letting the pen go freely on good watercolor paper. Nothing in mind. The pleasure of the pen scratching the paper, back and forth from green to brown. The result reminds me of the underwater vegetation observed recently at Moreau Lake on a lazy afternoon.
